A beautifully designed and well made compact sideboard by Heaton Tabb and Co. The cross banding of the walnut around the edges, including the doors, sets this sideboard apart as a quality item.
Three pull out drawers to the top, with the middle drawer having an inset sliding wooden tray. Below two cupboards open to reveal two shelves running the width of the sideboard.
Heaton and Co. designed furniture for the Titanic and Olympic. They had offices at the ship builders, Harland and Wolff’s Belfast site and this continued when they were renamed Heaton Tabb and Company in the 1930s, when they continued to make furniture for other prestigious liners.
It is quite likely this piece was from a liner’s stateroom. It has several pin holes at the back to indicate it has been attached to a wall and as in this case has ball bearing fixings to prevent the cupboards from opening whilst at sea.
This matches a cocktail cabinet also listed.
This piece comes in very good clean condition.
