Two Art Deco Beswick Vases designed by Mr Symcox in 1934, in a rare pattern.
The tall vase, shape number 128 and stamped ‘Beswick Ware, Made in England’. This was a popular shape vase and unusually reissued several times although the decoration changed.
The twin-handled vase, shape number 185 impressed to the base and stamped, ‘Beswick Ware, Made in England’, had a short production run 0f 6 years.
Mr Symcox worked for Beswick between 1933 and 1942 as a freelance sculptor. His design of these two pieces fully embraced the Art Deco style with a fabulous hand painted stylised cottage, trees and flowers. Painted in a simple palette of shades of green, with a thin outline of blue for the clouds and a gold outline colour way for the cottage and bushes. Simply designed but full of detail even showing the smoke emitted from the chimneys.
No chips or cracks to the two pieces.
From a Beswick pottery collector of forty years.
