A fine Art Deco desk by the highly regarded designer, Betty Joel. This pedestal desk in walnut with three drawers to each side and a central drawer. Both second drawers down have a top sliding section and each bottom drawer with a sliding upright section to keep files/paperwork upright. Each drawer with circular chrome stepped handles and the original escutcheons, although without a key. The mustard coloured leather top in very good condition and walnut to the four sides, allowing it to sit facing into a room if required. The Betty Joel Token label to the underside of the central section, dated June 1938, signed by Betty Joel and the makers.

Betty Joel designed furniture, textiles and interiors, and had shops in Sloane Square and Knightsbridge. The Studio Magazine featured her work between 1927 and 1937. Today the quality and design of her pieces are highly regarded.
