A Betty Joel, Australian Walnut, modernist bookcase/display cabinet with two drawers and an enclosed cupboard with stepped Walnut rectangular handles, with an assymetrical shelving arrangement, over reeded block feet. The drawers have the signature ball bearing closure catch to their bases, designed and manufactured by Betty Joel, paper label under glass on the base, signed by both the maker, G E Ashley and designer, Betty Joel at the Token Works Portsmouth, 1933.

Betty Joel (pictured) designed furniture, textiles and interiors, and had shops in Sloane Square and Knightsbridge. The Studio Magazine featured her work between 1927 and 1937. Today the quality and design of her pieces are highly regarded.
