Betty Joel bookcase in English sycamore designed and made in 1937. Inscribed ivorine plaque to the back, explaining the bookcase was designed to house a set of Encyclopaedia Britannica’s to celebrate the Coronation of King George VI in 1937.
Betty Joel (pictured) designed furniture, textiles and interiors, and had shops in Sloane Square and Knightsbridge. The Studio Magazine featured her work between 1927 and 1937. Today the quality and design of her pieces are highly regarded.
