A Fine Portrait, titled ‘Mavis with her Blue Fan’ by the highly respected artist Mrs Sylvia Ansdell née. Guantlett.

The artist was awarded the Creswick Prize by Sir Edward Poynter in 1916 for landscape painting at the Royal Academy under her maiden name of Miss Sylvia Gauntlett. Sir Edward Poynter in awarding the prize said that Mrs. Ansdell’s picture was the best he had seen sent in for this competition during the whole nineteen years he had been President of the Royal Academy, and stood out in a year when the class was much above the average.

The Tatler on 12th January 1916, devoted a full page to her achivenement.

In 1920 she had a further work exhibited by The Royal Academy of Arts.
