A dining room suite by David Joel, comprising of a drop leaf table, four dining room chairs, including one carver and a sideboard, made from Indian Laurel.

The sideboard with two sliding doors, to reveal on one side, two shelves, including one glass shelf (not pictured), and on the other side, two pull out drawers, with green baize lining and one shelf. Marked with David Joels label to the back.

The table, with curved edges drops down on both sides, to provide extra space if required. The method to extend the table is a design feature in itself. David Joel’s label found under the table top.

The four chairs, Including one carver, have recently been reupholstered by the previous owner, with the material in excellent condition.

David Joel was the joint founder of the distinguished Betty Joel firm. When his wife retired, he purchased the factory in 1937 to manufacture as David Joel Limited. Like Betty he designed many beautiful pieces of furniture, often using the best materials available. He used many woods from the British Empire, including Canada, Australia, British Honduras, West Africa and in this case India.

Indian Laurel is an expensive close grained heavy wood and is dark walnut in colour.
